1 Peter 1.
13 So while you gear up for your plans, perfectly sober,
put hope in the grace which carries you, in the revelation of Christ Jesus.
14 Like obedient children. Not conforming to past behavior, to your ignorant desires,
15 but according to your holy calling.
Become holy in every way of life.
16 Because he wrote down that you’re to be holy, “like I’m holy.” Lv 11.44-45
17 If you claim God as Father—
he who judges nothing by face value, but by each person’s work—
while you’re living here, conduct yourself in godly fear,
18 knowing no perishable thing, no silver nor gold,
frees you from your empty lifestyle and heritage,
19 but Christ’s precious blood, like that of a blameless, spotless lamb.
20 Foreknown before the world was founded;
made known at the last minute for you.
21 Through him, faith in God—who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory—
so your faith and hope are in God.
1 Peter 2.
13 Be submissive to everything people come up with—because of the Master.
Either the reigning king, 14 or leaders whom the king sent to avenge evildoers and praise do-gooders.
15 For this is God’s will: Doing good silences ignorant, foolish people.
16 Live like free people. Not like those who disguise evil as freedom, but like God’s slaves.
17 Honor everyone. Love fellow Christians. Respect God. Honor the king.
18 Household slaves: Be submitted, in all fear of your wardens.
Not just the good and gentle, but even the twisted ones too.
19 Grace is for anyone in pain and unjust suffering,
when you put up with it, conscious of God.
20 What good is it if sinners put up with a beating?
But if you do good, yet live in suffering, this receives grace from God.
1 Peter 3.
8 Everyone’s goal should be the same thinking:
Sympathy, brotherly love, compassion, humility,
9 not paying back evil with evil, cursing for cursing.
Just the opposite: Blessings, because you were invited to inherit blessing.
10 Those who want to love life and see good days:
Stop your tongues from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
11 Get away from evil and do good. Seek peace. Chase it.
12 The Master’s eyes look over the righteous; his ear hears their requests.
The Master’s face opposes evildoers. Ps 34.12-16
1 Peter 5.
1 So I encourage you elders, as an elder and witness to Christ’s sufferings,
who also partners in his glory once he’s revealed:
2 Shepherd God’s flock which he gave you to oversee.
Not because you have to, but because you want to, for God.
Nor out of greed for success, but wishing them well.
3 Nor like a slave-driving boss over clerks, but like you’re also one of the flock.
4 When the head shepherd appears, you’ll receive a wreath of unfading glory.
5 Young people likewise: Submit to elders, and everyone put on humility.
For “God’s in opposition to the arrogant, and gives grace to the lowly.” Pr 3.34
