2 Peter 1.
2B I hope you multiply in knowledge of God and our master Jesus.
3 Like everything given us by his godly power, we were given it for a religious life,
through knowing the one who called us to his glorious, excellent self.
4 Through this, he gave us precious, great promises.
Through them, you have a relationship with his godly nature:
You escape the corruption of the world, caused by desire run wild.
5 This being the case, contribute as much as you can to applying the promises.
Start with faith. Add quality. Then knowledge, 6 then self-control,
then endurance, then godliness, 7 then a sense of family, then love.
8 This is how you develop growth. Not by laziness nor fruitlessness.
It makes you knowledgeable about our master, Christ Jesus.
9 Those who don’t participate in this are blind, short-sighted;
they’ve forgotten how they were cleansed of their past sins.
10 Fellow Christians, you therefore have a definite calling: You were chosen to do these things.
Stick to it! You don’t stumble when you do them.
11 You’ll be richly given entry to the age
of the kingdom of our master and savior, Christ Jesus.
19 We have a certain prophetic word, which is good for you to turn to.
It’s like a lamp shining in a dim room till the day can dawn,
till a morning star can rise in your hearts.
20 But know this first: No scriptural prophecy is open to one’s own interpretation,
21 for no human will ever brought forth a legitimate prophecy.
Instead people, by carrying the Holy Spirit, spoke from God—
2 Peter 2.
1 and fake prophets also came from the people.
Likewise fake prophets come from you, who’ll secretly bring in destructive heresy,
denying they know the slaveowner who bought them,
bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
2 Peter 3.
1 Now, beloved, I’m writing this second letter to you,
in which I’m waking up your memories of unclouded thinking—
2 to remember the messages the holy prophets proclaimed,
and the commands of your apostles from the Master and savior—
3 knowing this first: In the Last Days, scoffers will come to scoff,
according to the way their own particular desires go.
4 “How’s the promise of his coming work? For the fathers slept after it—
just like everything continues from the beginning of creation.”
5 This ignores these proclamations:
The heavens had existed for a long time, and earth out of water;
and through water, which God’s word had gathered together,
6 through which the world, overflowed by water, was destroyed.
7 Now the heavens and the earth, by the same word, having been preserved,
are for fire—being kept for Judgment Day and the destruction of godless people.
8 This one thing can’t escape your notice, beloved:
One day with the Master is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
9 The Master isn’t slowing down his promise, like some folks slow things down.
But he acts patiently towards you, not wanting anyone to be destroyed,
but for everyone to come forward in repentance.
10 The Lord’s Day will come like a thief.
On it, the universe will loudly pass away,
burning elements will be destroyed,
and earth and its works will be found out.
11 With all these things destroyed in this way,
what sort of people must we be, in holy lifestyle and godliness?
12 Expecting and encouraging the invasion of God’s day,
in which the burning heavens will be destroyed, and the scorching elements melt?
13 According to his promise, we expect a new heavens and new earth,
in which rightness governs.
14 So beloved, while waiting for these things, do your best for him,
without spot and without blame, to be found in peace
15 and command our Master’s patient salvation,
just as our beloved brother Paul wrote you,
according to the wisdom given him; 16 he speaks of such things in every letter.
There are some things in them difficult to grasp,
which non-discipled wackjobs twist, just like the other scriptures,
to their own, to destruction.
17 So you, beloved, knowing this ahead of time, watch out.
Thus, wandering off into some Law-breaking mistake,
you won’t fall off from your own stable support.
18 Grow in grace and knowledge of our Master and rescuer, Christ Jesus.
Honor to him, both now and in the days of the age to come. Amen.
