Jeremiah 7.
3 The LORD of War, Israel’s God, says this:
“Be good in your ways and actions, and you can dwell here in this place.
4 Don’t trust these lying words, those who tell you,
‘The LORD’s temple! LORD’s temple! LORD’s temple!’
5 When you’re truly good in your ways and actions
you’ll establish justice between a man and his fellow.
6 Foreigners, orphans, and widows won’t be oppressed.
Innocent blood won’t be poured out in this place.
Other gods, which are bad for you, won’t be followed.
7 You can dwell here in this place, the land I gave your ancestors long, long ago.
8 Look, you trust their lying words, but they don’t profit you.
9 Theft, murder, adultery, perjury—smoke for Baal,
following other gods which you don’t understand—
10 then you come stand before me, in this house which is called by my name,
and say, ‘We’ve been saved!’—in order to do all these disgusting things?
11 Has this house become a cave of wild animals to you?
—this house which is called by my name, in your eyes?
Because this is what I see,” states the LORD.
Jeremiah 19.
1 The LORD said this: “Go buy a potter’s ceramic bottle
for the people’s elders and the priests’ elders.
2 Go out to the Ben-Hinnóm ravine which is by the Ceramic Tile Gate.
Shout out the words which I speak to you.
10 “Break the bottle in sight of the men who go with you.
11 Tell them the LORD of War says this: Thus I break this people and city.
Like Jeremiah breaks a potter’s jar, which he isn’t able to mend again,
people will bury at this shrine with no place else to bury.
12 I’m doing that to this place,” utters the LORD.
“Its inhabitants are getting a city like this shrine.
13 Jerusalem’s houses, Judah’s king’s house, will be like this unclean shrine.
All the houses where you cast spells on your roofs, to all of heaven’s armies.
Where you poured out drinks to other gods.”
Jeremiah 25.
34A Howl, shepherds. Call out.
Roll in the dirt, mighty flocks.
Jeremiah 29.
1 These words are from the scroll the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem
to the remaining elders, captives, and priests:
All the people Nebuchadnezzar sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, into exile.
4 “The LORD of War, Israel’s God, says this
to all the captives who were exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon.
5 “Build houses. Live there. Plant gardens. Eat their fruit.
6 Get women. Beget sons and daughters.
Get your sons women. Give your daughters to men. They can beget sons and daughters.
Be many there. You can’t be few.
7 Seek the peace of the city where I sent you into exile.
Pray to the LORD for it. Its peace is your peace.”
8 For the LORD of War, Israel’s God, says this:
“Don’t let your prophets in your midst trick you.
Don’t share the dreams you dream with your fortune-tellers
9 because they prophesy to you with lies in my name. I don’t send them,” the LORD states.
10 For the LORD says this: “Within 70 years, Babylon is done. I’ll visit you.
My good word will rise over you, to return you to this place.
11 Because I know the intentions I plan over you,” the LORD states.
“Intentions of peace, not evil. To give you a happy ending, and hope.
12 You call me. You come and pray to me. I’ll listen to you.
13 You seek me. You’ll find, because you’re seeking me with all your heart.
14 I’ll be found by you,” the LORD states.
“I return your captives. I gather you from all the nations, all the places I drove you,” the LORD states.
“I return you to the place I removed you.”
Jeremiah 32.
35 “They built a place to worship Baal in Gehenna,
to have their sons and daughters pass through fire to Molekh.
I never commanded this!
This disgusting act, this error of Judah, never entered my mind.”
Jeremiah 43.
2 Azaría ben Hošaya, Jochanan ben Qareakh, and all the proud men,
told, told Jeremiah, “You speak lies.
Our LORD God didn’t send you to say, ‘Don’t go to Egypt and stay there’!
3 Barúkh ben Neriya got you to screw us over, so he could put us in the Iraqis’ hands,
and they’d kill or exile us to Babylon.”
4 Neither Jochanan ben Qareakh, nor any of the great princes, nor any of the people,
would listen to the LORD’s voice and stay in the land of Judah.
