Amos.
Amos 2.
9 “I destroyed the Amorite before their very eyes,
whose height was like that of cedars, strong like oaks.
I destroyed their fruit above, and root below.”
14 “The fastest: Their refuge is destroyed.
The toughest: Their strength isn’t there.
The mighty: Won’t escape with their lives.
15 The archers: Can’t stand.
The fastest runners: Won’t be rescued.
The horsemen: Won’t escape with their lives.”
Amos 7.
1 Here’s what my Lord YHWH showed me:
Look, locusts form, beginning to go up against the spring crop.
Look, the spring crop after the king mows it.
2 When it finished eating the land’s grass, I said, “Lord YHWH, please forgive us!
How can Jacob survive this? He’s small!”
3 The LORD regretted this. “It won’t be,” the LORD said.
4 Here’s what my Lord YHWH showed me:
Look, my Lord YHWH calls Israel to fight a wildfire.
It consumes the great valley; it consumes property.
5 I said, “Lord YHWH, please stop it!
How can Jacob survive this? He’s small!”
6 The LORD regretted this. “This also won’t be,” said my Lord YHWH.
12 Amachía told Amós, “Seer, go away. Flee to your land, Judah.
Eat bread there. Prophesy there.
13 Don’t come again to Bethél to prophesy.
It’s the king’s sanctuary. It’s the kingdom’s house.”
14 In reply Amós told Amachía, “I wasn’t a prophet, nor a ‘prophet’s son’;
I was a herdsman, gathering figs.
15 The LORD took me away from the flock.
The LORD told me, ‘Go prophesy to Israel’s people.’
16 Now hear the LORD’s word.
You say, ‘Don’t prophesy over Israel.
Don’t drop revelations over Isaac’s house.’
17 So the LORD says this: ‘Your woman is whoring in the city.
Your sons and daughters are falling on the sword.
Your land is getting divided with a measuring rope, and you’re dying in an unclean land.
Israel is removed, removed from its land.’”
